There were two main reasons. Firstly, a Hyperscale solution exceeded the budget I had to fit in. Secondly, I had a strong confidence that there are plenty of low-hanging fruits that could improve database design and performance improvements. In other words, it felt like the database is already overprovisioned, thus I didn't consider more performant options. Hope this helps.
